2012 ~ August ~ Quilt Blocks for Japan

Today, I came across this fantastic and fun way us quilters and sewing type folk can get involved and help with the people in Japan who are still trying to rebuild their lives from the earthquakes that changed their lives forever not too long ago.  By getting involved we also can raise awareness to our friends and family who follow our blogs and hopefully a chain reaction of giving will start to happen.  The Crane Project website led me to a Facebook page where there was a free pattern for the Crane quilt block and deadlines that was designed by Phyllis Dobbs, she is an amazing artist who uses many methods to show her skills off and if you don't know who she is you should check out her website too! So while I have you here, I should show you the block I made today for the cause.  I chose the colors I did since it reminded me of the Japanese flag.  I was soooooo tempted to make it purple since it is my favorite color, but here is proof I can use other colors in the rainbow besides my favorite...haha :-p  PS...Let them know, Tiffiny (Smilie Mommy) sent you over to help :-)

  4. Thank you Tiffiny for supporting the Quilts for Japan Crane Project. I invite all of your quilting friends to join us on the Quilts for Japan Facebook Group; www.facebook.com/groups/quiltsforjapan/
as we continue to send love, hope and comfort to the survivors.

We are currently in the process of making a few changes to Phyllis's pattern (with her kind and ever so appreciated permission) to construct a block more in keeping with an origami crane. Jonathan has based his project on the significance of the origami crane so I am endeavoring to ensure we meet his needs. It is important to note that we also require donations in the form of people who are willing to finish constructing the quilts with the donated blocks as well as individuals who would be willing to pay for the postage to ship the quilts to Japan as we have no funding for shipping costs.

I hope to have the finalized details, along with the information of where to send completed blocks to, posted on the group in the next few days so I ask that anyone wanting to donate to this cause,to please check our Facebook group prior to constructing a block.

I invite you and your quilting friends to visit our website www.quiltsforjapan.ca to see pictures of the survivors receiving their quilts following the tsunami as well as them learning how to quilt after receiving the sewing and quilting kits we sent to help fill their long days.

Once again, I can't thank you enough for your support.

    Warm Regards,
    Bev Rogan
